Oak & Label, is a multiunit residential building located in Montclair in the greater New York City area. It is a four story residential building over ground floor car park and corner retail space.

The existing commercial building on the site was of historic importance to the town but  given it’s central location relative to the center of the town of Montclair, the derelict nature of the building, development potential of the larger site and it’s proximity to the commuter train line to NYC, the site was approved for higher density developement.

Given the varying scale of the surrounding context including residential single family residences to the north and larger commercial properties to the south, the design of the building needed to react to these varying scales.
